How to Study-Practice: Ears First

It may sound so obvious that it should go without saying, but… If you want to play with fluency and confidence and artistry, if you want to overcome “memory slips” and slay the stage fright monster, all of your playing must be guided by your inner hearing.

You must allow your mind’s ear to lead and trust (if you studied and practiced the right way) that your body will follow. This point is so important that it must be repeated: Allow your mind’s ear to lead and trust (if you studied and practiced the right way) that your body will follow.
