Scales: A Harmonic View

Although scales are typically conceptualized and taught as linear, melodic constructs, it is important to realize that a scale is as much a harmonic pattern as it is a melodic pattern. A scale is so much more than a sequence of notes that go up and down in “steps”. Every scale is a musical pattern that is rich in harmonic relationships. The following video explores some interesting examples of the reciprocal relationship between scales and chords… or is that chords and scales?
