Composition & Improvisation: A Case Study: Part 1 of 24: Lead Sheet

Welcome to series of lessons whose aim is to demystify the processes of Composition and Improvisation.

Using a very simple Lead Sheet that was composed especially for this study, we are going to do two things:

  1. UNDERSTAND what makes this piece tick by studying its many musical dimensions.
  2. TRANSFORM it using a variety of very simple ideas, thus exploring its creative potential.

    This appeals to me lots…since one year I have been playing the Native American flute and have just started to improvise from the heart with it…so this comes in handy in more ways than one.
